That’s right. Those are freshly baked, delicious, vegan chocolate chip cookies, and the crowd that came out to the Media Preview Party for the upcoming DC VegFest, hosted and organized by Compassion Over Killing, couldn’t get enough. Despite the rain, we had a tremendous turnout with more than 70 guests including media, VIPs, speakers, vendors, and sponsors who got to taste some of what’s in store on October 3 at Yards Park.
For the 2nd year in a row, we partnered with Busboys & Poets who graciously hosted the event in a private room at their 5th and K Street location. We cannot say enough about the wonderful staff and management at Busboys, especially Laela Shallal and Patrick Bonisteel, who made sure that the evening went off without a hitch. Busboys & Poets also put out quite spread of vegan food including vegan sliders (a huge hit!), Fieldroast “sausage,” vegan pulled “chicken” from Tofurky, vegan tuna in endive, “cheese” platters from Treeline Cheese and Daiya, as well as vegan wine and organic beer.
A select group of DC VegFest vendors treated guests to samples including vegan cookies from A Better Batch, chocolate from Undone Chocolate, Craft Kombucha, “cheezecake” from Daiya, and fruit ketchup from ‘Chups. Dr. Bronners and BeClean Shop were also on hand with vegan bath, skin, and body products.
We were honored to have some special VIPs in the house including festival speakers Kate Jacoby and Richard Landau of Vedge restaurant who traveled from Philadelphia to attend; Dr. Aysha Akhtar, author, TED talk speaker, and double board-certified neurologist and preventive medicine/public health specialist; and Brian Ottens who will be on the “Ask a Vegan Parent” panel.
A special thanks to the host committee members Dr. Neal Barnard, Ellen Kassoff Gray, Saurabh Dalal, Elizabeth & Dennis Kucinich, Tracye McQuirter, and Sara Polon
The piece de resistance were the fabulous goody bags, packed with samples, coupons and books from select DC VegFest speakers.
We can’t wait to see you all on the big day, Saturday October 3 at Yards Park!
