From Equinox Restaurant’s famous vegan brunch to its  Vegan Smackdown Challenge, which challenged Chef Todd Gray to “veganize” famous dishes from renowned chefs such as Cat Cora and Jose Andres, to innovative and seasonal, veg-forward dishes, Equinox Restaurant continues to lead the way in vegan fine dining in DC and beyond.

Ellen Kassoff Gray, Chef Gray’s wife and business partner, is the driving force behind Equinox’s plant-based offerings. A long-time vegetarian and passionate animal welfare advocate and supporter, Kassoff Gray encouraged Chef Gray to incorporate vegetarian fare into the menu from the beginning — all the way back when the restaurant opened in 1999. Over the past decade, Chef Gray has expanded the restaurant’s vegan offerings and they now comprise 50 percent of the menu. A small sampling of some recent media coverage for Equinox’s vegan fine dining program is below:

Washington Life Magazine
Veg Out
Writer Catherine Trifiletti delves into the inspiration behind Equinox’s vegan culinary program: “Todd Gray and his wife Ellen Kassoff Gray started incorporating vegan and vegetarian options into their menu in 1999. The positive response from Equinox’s loyal diners set off a chain reaction leading up to the creation of their famous vegan brunch, once served every Sunday at the old Corcoran Gallery of Art. Equinox’s menu, which changes periodically, has now evolved into being 50 percent plant-based.”

Karina Sharma writes: “Savor plant-based combinations with a three-, five- or seven-course tasting menu from chef Todd Gray’s award-winning kitchen. Miso-roasted eggplant, gingered-pineapple crepes and a tofu-and-quinoa scramble station make Gray’s Sunday vegan brunch unmissable.”
