“Each time a person stands up for an ideal, or acts to improve the lot of others, or strikes out against injustice, he or she sends forth a tiny ripple of hope, and those ripples build a current which can sweep down the mightiest walls of oppression and resistance.”
-Robert F. Kennedy
These are terrifying times and the rights of all Americans are at stake. It’s a time to mobilize and act.
On Tuesday December 13, we helped organize the first ever Shaken & Stirred: Gathering to Fight Hate and Injustice event at Busboys & Poets (our fantastic event sponsor!), which raised more than $12,000 for six national non-profit progressive organizations that are on the front lines, fighting every day for equality, human rights, the environment, freedom, and inclusiveness including:
- The American Civil Liberties Union
- Planned Parenthood
- Southern Poverty Law Center
- The Council on American-Islamic Relations
- Lambda Legal
- Natural Resources Defense Council
We had a great turnout with more than 100 people and we heard from representatives from each of the non-profits, who shared information about the work they do and how to get more involved. Here are just a few of the photos from this inspiring evening. Photos are courtesy of Leslie Barbaro Photography.
Big thanks to the Host Committee for all of their help:
